Life has an End
This week has been heavy on my heart. It’s one of those weeks where life shakes you and reminds you of what truly matters.
Part of the weight I feel comes from knowing this pain is not new. One of my best friend—is walking through the through the unimaginable loss of his daughter. She was only 11 years old when she passed away, taken by the very same sickness my husband has battled. That kind of grief never truly leaves a parent., a
I’ve always believed that our days are numbered by God. Psalm 139:16 says, “All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” Life has timing—God’s timing—and though that truth brings comfort, it doesn’t erase the pain when we see someone we love nearing the end of their earthly journey.
Last night, we received news that one of my husband’s closest friends has no medical options left. The doctors have said there is no hope. Today, I sat beside him as a notary while he signed his DNR. I was a witness to this moment of final surrender, and it is one I won’t soon forget. It left me humbled, broken, and deeply aware of how fragile life really is.
But in the midst of this heartbreak, God began whispering to my spirit: Be the one.
We are called to be the one.
The one who stands in the gap when others are hurting.
The one who lifts up prayers when a brother or sister cannot find the words.
The one who carries hope, even when circumstances feel hopeless.
Ezekiel 22:30 says, “I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap… but I found no one.” God is still looking for people willing to be that one—the intercessor, the encourager, the servant, the hands and feet of Jesus in a broken world.
Our motto has always been “No family left behind.” Sometimes that looks like helping a family secure their future through a policy, but other times, it’s not about paperwork or business at all. Sometimes, being the one simply means showing up. Holding a hand. Praying when someone has no strength left. Loving them the way Christ loves us.
This week has reminded me that life is precious and short. We don’t get to control the number of our days, but we do get to decide how we live them. And if God has called us to be the one, then our answer must be yes.
So I ask you today: where is God calling you to be the one?
Maybe it’s for a friend battling illness.
Maybe it’s for a family struggling to make ends meet.
Maybe it’s for the person sitting right next to you who is silently hurting.
We may not be able to heal every wound or fix every situation, but we can point people to the One who can. We can love like Jesus loved. We can pray without ceasing. We can be the one.
Because when we stand in the gap, no family is left behind, no soul is forgotten, and no one walks alone.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
We come to You with hearts that are heavy but hopeful. We lift up every family walking through sickness, grief, and loss. Surround them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Remind them that You are close to the brokenhearted and that You never leave or forsake us.
Lord, give us the courage to be the one—to stand in the gap, to love like You love, and to pray when others cannot. Help us to live each day with purpose, compassion, and a willingness to serve.
We trust in Your timing, we rest in Your promises, and we cling to the hope we have in Christ Jesus.
In His holy name we pray, Amen
